David Hillman – 30+ Years Designing

"Educated at the London School of Printing, David Hillman began his career as a Design Assistant at the Sunday Times Magazine. At the same time, he began work on the redesign of the Sunday Times newspaper. In 1968 he joined Nova magazine as Art Director and two years later became Deputy Editor.

In 1975 he set up his own design practice in London and was commissioned to design the new French daily newspaper, Le Matin de Paris. When he joined Pentagram as a partner in 1978, Hillman continued his editorial design work on publications including De Volkskrant, Il Sole 24 Ore, The Guardian, New Statesman & Society and The Times Educational Supplement. He also produced identity design programs for clients such as Skandia, SCA Paper, Phaidon Press, The Tate and the Liverpool Biennial and major signage systems for the National Maritime Museum, Somerset House and the Bullring in Birmingham.

The eponymous Studio David Hillman was formed in 2006. After 29 years as a partner of Pentagram he chose to move away from the complexities of a firm of 21 partners in five cities to pursue his personal vision of design." – dandad.org
