6th Annual National Student Show News

The Sixth Annual National Student Show sponsored by the Dallas Society of Visual Communication held its national student design work competition this Spring. Of the approximately 2500 pieces of work submitted for jury, 189 were accepted for inclusion in the show. The selected work came from the following 12 universities:
Incarnate Word, 7 pieces
Mississippi State University, 1 piece
Missouri State University, 9 pieces
Oklahoma State University, 1 piece
The Portfolio Center, 13 pieces
TCU, 6 pieces
Texas Woman’s University, 1 piece
Texas A&M Commerce, 16 pieces
Texas State University, 19 pieces
University of Kansas, 17 pieces
University of North Texas, 97 pieces
UT Arlington, 1 piece

Best Logo goes to junior Hector Arellano for the Manhattan Fish Market. $125
Best Letterhead Program goes to senior Mark Travis for his Camp for All campaign. $125
Best Poster goes to junior Paul Samples for TWO. $125
Best Miscellaneous goes to senior Ricky Yamashita for his Self Promotional piece. $125
Best Advertising Campaign goes to sophomore Amy Nortman for the  Moleskin campaign. $125
Best Illustration goes to junior Anna Niess for her Havanians illustrations. $125
Best Photography goes to senior Jason Perez for his FEAR series. $125
Best Total Campaign goes to senior Mark Travis for his Golfsmith campaign. $125
Best Group Project goes to juniors Max Barkhatov and Zack Howell for their PS3 campaign. $125

Best in Show goes to sophomore Amy Nortman for the  Moleskin campaign. $500

Best Concept
goes to senior Amy Nortman for the  Moleskin campaign. $125
Best Copywriting goes to senior Mitchell Ditto for the  Shun Pro 2 Knife campaign. $125

Chris Korbey Judge’s Choice Award
goes to senior Jason Perez for his FEAR photo series. $250
Jessica Hische Judge’s Choice Award goes to senior Bryan Barnes for his Stanley Tools campaign. $250

DSVC College Tuition Scholarship
goes to junior Hector Arellano. $1,000
Padgett Award goes to senior Jason Perez.  All expense paid trip to the HOW Design Conference (about a $2,000 value)
Jump Start Scholarship goes to senior Daniel Fuhrer $2,000
Jump Start Scholarship goes to senior Zach Hale. $2,000

Best School
goes to University of North Texas. $1,000 (UNT has won the Best School recognition 4 of the last 6 years.)

The work from these students will be on display at the 2010 Dallas Show, DSVC’s professional design show and awards banquet, on June 5th at the Women’s Museum at Fair Park. (Communication design faculty member Alex Egner had two logo design accepted in the professional show this year as well.) In total, the program and it students won $10,325 in scholarships and awards!
