I hope everyone is staying warm and enjoying their snow day this icy/cold and very windy winter day in Denton! I thought it appropriate to show some beautiful snowflake drawings Marian Bantjes developed for a line of jewelry and textiles commissioned by Saks Fifth Avenue a few years ago. Marian Bantjes is a designer, typographer and illustrator who is best known for her intricate and obsessive typography. Check out her site, www.bantjes.com to see the broad range of projects she's been working on. She presented her philosophy of design (Not a conventional or widely accepted approach to design, but one that works for her.) and talked about her work/process at the TED Conference last February. For those of you not familiar with TED, it's a small nonprofit group devoted to spreading ideas and enlightenment from the worlds of technology, entertainment and design. Each presenter is challenged to give the talk of their lives in 18 minutes. These 'talks' are filmed and posted to the TED website — so lots of great stuff to explore. Click here for an archived list.
