Personal Projects?

For those of you who did not make it to the DSVC National Student Show Conference (and all but 7 of you did NOT make it there  : [  ), there was an interesting presentation on the value of personal projects by Kate Bingaman-Burt. This value extends not only to your own craft and development, but there was also a suggestion that some companies (like facebook) were in fact asking to see that kind of work from job applicants. Kate showed Ugly Face Wednesdays as one example:

The portraits were made by Cari VanderYacht, a designer at W+K Studio in Amsterdam. She was interested in the care that people take when planning and posting profile pictures, and wanted to create some kind of social commentary about that. Her personal project was to shoot an ugly profile picture of herself to post on every Wednesday for a whole year. The trick it seems is to set your goals, set the rules for play, and to never waver till you have completed the project. (You can see the rest of the profile pics on Ms. VanderYacht's Flickr page here.)

So now I'll ask you... What personal projects are you working on?
