2009–2010 ComDes Student Accolades





The 2009–2010 Communication Design Awards
This year, the outstanding sophomore portfolios belonged to Byungjin Choi, Matthew T. Johnson, Jennifer Jennings, Gina Kern, Amy Nortman, Chad Smith and Jon Harvell. This year’s scholarship winners are:

The $1,000 Fossil Award for the most outstanding portfolio in the Sophomore Review went to Gina Kern.

The $1,000 Jack Sprague Scholarship for the student who demonstrated excellence in both art direction and graphic design went to Jennifer Jennings.

The $500 Taylor Austin Hicks Scholarship for the student who took the most risks went to Chad Smith.

The $1,000 Arma Armaiti Shahidi Fitzgerald and Soudabeh Baharloo Shahidi Initiative and Excellence Scholarship for the student who strives to exceed expectations and shows passion and initiative for knowledge went to Natalia Padilla.



The $750 Dr. Mack Vaughan Scholarship in Communication Design was awarded to Amy Nortman.

The outstanding art direction portfolios in the Junior year belonged to Tomo Kanai, Hector Arellano, Kirby Sandifer, Madison McDaniel and Andrew Bui

 
The $1,000 Launch Agency Outstanding Achievement Scholarship in Art Direction went to Madison McDaniel.

The outstanding graphic design portfolios in the Junior year belonged to Emily Schwarting, Maxim Barkhatov, Paul Samples and Meghan Besinger.

 
The $1,000 Launch Agency Outstanding Achievement Scholarship in Graphic Design went to Max Barkhatov.

The outstanding art direction portfolio nominees in the Senior year belonged to Jason Perez, Ricky Yamashita, Bryan Barnes, Mitchell Ditto and Kyle Wessel.

 
The 2010 Outstanding Senior Art Direction Portfolio was created by Bryan Barnes.

The outstanding graphic design portfolio nominees in the senior year belonged to Daniel Fuhrer, Megan Mead, Stu Taylor, Zach Hale and Mark Travis.

Is a division of UnderConsideration and a direct descendant of Brand New. Its purpose is to provide a space where the work of talented students from around the world can be showcased and critiqued. Brand New Classroom focuses on redesigns of real-life brands by students — an exercise that gives them a solid point of departure with a pre-determined audience and brand personality and an existing identity against which their work can be compared. goes to University of North Texas. $1,000 (UNT has won the Best School recognition 4 of the last 6 years.)
